College Football Week 6
Week 5 Premium Plays: 3-3 (+1 unit)
Week 5 Leans: 3-0 (+1.5 units)
Overall Premium Plays: 18-10 (+9 units)
Overall Leans: 12-9 (+1.5 units)
Overall Combined Record: 30-19 (+9.5 units)
Week 5 Summary: I wish that plane went down in the hurricane. Bright side, textbook lesson in unit management.
Week 6 Preview: Terrible slate but I absolutely love it. Tell the book to bump the credit.
Week 6 Premium Plays:
Boston College +1.5 at Virginia (1 unit): Tony C back from injury for a road trip to Virginia. I’ll take the mobile QB against a Virginia team that doesn’t really do anything particularly well. They struggle to run the ball against FBS teams, they turn the ball over through the air, and their defense isn’t exactly stifling. I’m not exactly in love with Boston College but the defense is good enough to hold UVA under 20 and I have confidence in BC to get above that number. Expect a couple turnovers from UVA en route to a 24-17 loss at home against Boston College
Pitt/UNC over 63.5 (1 unit): Pitt QB Eli Holstein is one of the pleasant surprises this year in college football with 1200 yards and 12/2 TD/INT ratio. The former five star should add to those numbers with a healthy performance on Saturday against Sleepy Mack’s Tar Heel defense. You think about the 70 piece JMU hung on UNC, the antics following with Mack Brown threatening to resign (Tarheel faithful were probably holding their breath), and a rivalry game the next week…. Of course UNC was going to come out and play. I think we are back to the Mack Brown track meet special here. JMU beat up UNC through the air which is exactly what Pitt is equipped to do. Additionally, I think UNC participates as Pitt’s defense hasn’t looked particularly good either. Pitt moves to 5-0 in a 41-35 win in Chapel Hill.
Navy -10 at Air Force (3 units): As a member of the Air Force (through blood relation), this pains me. But the reality of the matter is Air Force got fleeced after a few stellar years. The team that brough double digit wins to the Academy is gone and they left the cabinets bare. This team sucks. They can’t score, they can’t play defense, they only angle they have here is altitude. I’m not buying it. Navy has rattled off a couple wins against decent opponents in Memphis, who they beat in a boat race, and UAB who is a respectable team. The best part about this Navy team? They love to take the top off. A service academy averaging over 10 pass attempts a game is the Power 5 equivalent to Mike Leach/Gardner Minshew offense. Navy is going to run it down their throat and then put one over the top. Navy’s new look offense takes flight in a 45-17 win on the road.
Georgia -22 vs Auburn (1 unit): Throw out the last two weeks for UGA. Blood bath in Athens. Kirby going to skull fuck a team that may commit a hate crime if Hugh Freeze throws them under the bus again.
Boise State -27 vs Utah State (2 units): Feels a little square here because of the Ashton Jeanty hype. Don’t care. The hype on Boise State is real. These guys can score. The only blemish for Boise is the defense. Good news is Utah State isn’t blowing the top off anyone anytime soon. Maddux Madsen has the easiest job in college football. Hand off left, hand off right, screen.. and so on. Madsen isn’t great but he does enough to spread the field and keep the defense honest. I like the Broncos to trample Utah State. 54-17
Duke +10 at Georgia Tech (1 unit): The Blue Devils are just addicted to close games. The GT hype skyrocketed after a week zero win over the worst team to ever take the field in the FBS, Florida State, and then quickly came crashing back to earth with a loss at Syracuse. I’m not buying this tech team and I trust Texas transfer Malik Murphy to keep it within the number.
Indiana Football Hoosiers -13.5 at Northwestern Practice Facility Stadium Huskies (2 units): Ride the hot hand. Hoosiers head to Chicago for a tilt on NW’s newly erected home stadium. 500 Husky fans intend to get rowdy for this afternoon heavy weight clash…. I’m kidding, Indiana is going to do things to Northwestern that would get you a 10-15 year bid in Illinois State Correctional Facility if they were done off the football field. Hoosiers 45 – 17.
Week 6 Leans:
Oklahoma State -3 vs WVU: Oklahoma State is mortal. 3 unit bet. The only reason they are in the leans section is because I literally can’t formulate why they are mortal. They just are. The Mike Gundy Experience.
Syracuse/New Mexico under 55: Friday night game. NM returns to earth after NILgate.
TAMU/Mizzou under 48: Feels a little square but we know exactly what TAMu is. Good defense, bad offense at home. Slow paced game here.
Cal +10 vs Miami: 10:30pm kick for the Canes after a 3k mile trip. Cal is decent and I am not convinced by Miami whatsoever.
I don’t want to win this week…. I need to win this week.
Cheers,
WT
